need some help

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –     I know absolutely nothing about gardening.  I just moved to Champiagn, IL and i am faced with the duty of maintaining a garden.  All my life I have lived without being exposed with anythhng that had to do with gardening.  To show you how much I don’t know about gardening:  I don’t know what a weed looks like.  I don’t know what the previous owner planted because they moved out several months ago and the plants that they had were shriveled and dead and no one was able to recognizwe them.  I ask for your help with this to give me a few pointers, describe what a weed looks like, give me suggestions about what to plant.  I feel bad about crowding the newsgroup and the server with thisplea for help, but you have no idea how much I need it.          I would appreciate any help that you could give me on this and I’m sure that this is already implied, but i might as well write it:  just reply back to me unless you have a realy great tip that everyone could learn from.                                           Thank You,                                       Ayesha Choudhury

What you REALLY need is some help from the local horticultural society.   There are LOTS of different weeds, and they don’t all look the same.  If you call the society, they should be able to direct you to someone who will give you some on-site pointers. Good luck. Chris Owens

Go to the library, and get yourself one of those gardening books, ie: Reader’s digest, Rodale, Taylor’s, Better Homes and Gardens,  almost anybody’s comprehensive book.  It tells you so much about how to start. Even someone with no gardening experience learns so much.  Start here and progress from there.

http://netnow.micron.net/~n7su/page2.htm there you will find a text file , garden.txt, or the zipped file, garden .zip, issued by US Dept. of Ag. "Growing Vegetables In The Home Garden" that you can change the file name and read it in your browser, change it to garden.htm. Not great information but a start. Much more info is available on the Internet. — ebb

Hi Ayesha.  I suggest you contact the U of I extension office and tell them you need some horticultural help.  They are a great outfit, with offices in most counties.  I’ve had lots of help from them and their publications.  Good luck.  John Reiner.
